Never Summer Snowboards 2024
November 07, 2023 - Never Summer never disappoints. For over 30 years now, they drop a new line of boards that always seems to...
Loaded Boards’ new releases are always some of the highest-anticipated boards on the market - and for good reason. The new Loaded Fathom is a unique and well-thought-out longboard with features like no other that make its performance so amazing! Here's the down-low and what you can expect from the Fathom.
The board is designed to be ridden with the new Loaded Zee drop-down-style brackets, designed by G/Bomb. The collaboration with them has been a centerpiece in the creation of this model which allows the board to be lowered significantly. The purpose of such a big drop is to allow the narrow 150mm Paris Trucks to be combined with the ultra-huge 105mm Orangatang Dad Bod Wheels. The clearance needed is achieved and makes this whole setup very maneuverable and agile for having such big wheels. It's super fun to carve and turn sharp with no worries about getting wheel-bite.
The 8-ply maple deck is made in a one-of-a-kind mold that features both concave and camber as well as huge wheel flares. This allows for a comfortable medium flex that dampens the ride while also being very supportive for most riders. The flares at the ends of the deck add even more wheel clearance, but also keep the rider's feet on the board and away from the big wheels. Altogether this creates reference points for your feet which makes it easy to feel locked in without having to look down when cruising and carving it up!
The Loaded Fathom is one speedy longboard that many will use as a commuter board and is also great if you want to go long distances. LDP (Long Distance Push) is a discipline of longboarding focused on pushing your longboard long distances in the range of 5-20 plus miles. Pushing a longboard more than a few miles can be tough on the legs, especially the standing leg. However, this board being so low, even with such big wheels, makes it a lot easier than most other longboards. Having huge, 85-105mm, wheels give the setup more roll speed and momentum so you don’t have to push as often, thus you can cruise longer with less effort. The bonus is that the Fathom also turns well because of the narrow trucks that fit it. Usually, lowered longboards (drop-through and drop-down) must have wide 180mm trucks to create the wheel clearance needed. That takes away from the turning radius and fun of carving. But thanks to the G/Bomb Bracket, narrow and more nimble trucks can be set up with big, fatty wheels! This is one of the biggest differences between the Fathom and most other low-rider longboards.
The Fathom is available as a pre-built complete with Paris Trucks and either 105mm/80a Dad Bods or 85mm/77a Caguama Orangatang Wheels. It’s also available as just the deck with the Loaded Zee Bracket so you can choose your own trucks and wheels, or just add the bracket to your own board.
