New 2024 Longboard Wheels

     Longboard wheel brands are getting more creative this year and coming out with a variety of wheels for longboarding enthusiasts!  We took a look at two new brands we carry as well as the lastest from two of the most popular brands to feature here.   Take a look at our recent YouTube video for a close up look at all these new wheels.

Starting off with a new brand we carry called BOA Wheels, these things are really BIG!  They are best for those seeking max roll speed on flat ground.  With more roll speed means less pushing and more gliding so the rider can get places faster with less effort.  These are great for the longboard discipline called LDP (Long Distance Push).  There are two options – 100mm / 76a Boa Constrictors and 90mm/76a Boa Hatchings.  They will fit best on Double-Drop or Drop-Through longboards with big wheel cutouts.  Matched with a low riding board is best for these big heavy wheels, and what most distance riders have them setup with.

Next is another new brand we carry called 88 Wheel Co.  They have a new wheel called the Vipers that come in 70mm/76a Yellow and 70mm/74a White.  Both are very interesting with a round freeride style edge on the outside and a sharp downhill style edge on the inside.  They have an offset hub core and offer a nice mix of freeride sliding while also gripping better than other freeride wheels with a 90 degree inside lip.  These are the first of this style we've seen and they definitely should be noted as unique. We recommend these to those looking for both styles of longboard wheels, downhill and freeride, in one do it all wheel!

The very popular Powell Peralta DH wheels headed by downhill skateboarding guru Kevin Reimer have had great success with various versions of his signature wheels the K-Rimes and the Snakes.  Both have been offered in various sizes and durometers.  Their latest wheels are the Primos that originally released earlier this year in 69mm/78a Orange and 66mm/82 Blue and Yellow.  Now they are offered in a slightly gripper 69mm/75a Green and Red versions seen here.  And are geared towards faster freeriding.   Primo wheels are center set to allow even wear.   All of the Powell wheel formulas are well known for their smooth butter slides and affordable prices.  All of these new wheels are made at the Skate One corp facility in southern California that has famously produced all Powell skate wheels and Bones bearings for a few decades now.

Orangatang wheels also made in southern California has been around since 2008.  They are the most well known longboarding wheels to date.   They have been making wheels with their unique high quality urethanes for dozens of models in a wide range of sizes and shapes for all types of longboarding.  Their latest here are called the Beefcake wheels that are 73mm tall with a 31mm contact patch.  They are center set freeride wheels with extra beefy round edges that are stoneground all the way around those luscious curves!   This allows for smooth slides right away with no break in period.  They are offered in 3 duros of their Happy Thane – 80a Orange, 83a Purple, and 86a Yellow.  The orange version is the most grippy but still slide really smooth.  The yellows allow the longest and easiest slides with less grip.  And the purples are the all around version that offers a good mix of slide and grip.  We recommend choosing the harder duros if learning to slide and the softer if more experienced, riding faster, and want a bit more breaking power.  However keep in mind these are all freeride wheels and made to slide no matter what duro you choose!
